We’re pleased to announce that Joao Velloso has been named Vice-Dean, graduate studies, of the Faculty of Law. He began his three-year term July 1. Velloso, an Associate Professor in the Common Law Section, succeeds Mona Paré, who served with distinction in this role from 2021.

In recognition of her remarkable contributions to university teaching, Dr. Angela Cameron has been awarded the University of Ottawa Award for Excellence in Teaching by the Association of Professors of the University of Ottawa (APUO).

Families, friends and faculty members gathered to celebrate the achievements of the Faculty of Law’s remarkable class of 2024. The Convocation ceremony, held at the Shaw Centre, was an exceptional celebration.

The 2023-2024 academic year broke new ground for the Common Law Section in its commitment to advancing reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples in Canada.

The Common Law Section is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Jamie Liew as the Shirley Greenberg Chair for Women and the Legal Profession, effective July 1, 2024.

Standing tall, sweetgrass grows in delicate strands. When gathered, the stems’ strength has provided the Indigenous community with sacred medicine for thousands of years. Every movement during harvest is made with respectful intention and desire to preserve the medicine.
