The Centre for Law, Technology and Society is delighted to announce that Amìr Korhani and Laura Garcia, Ph.D. candidates, are finalists of the International Policy Ideas Challenge 2017 organized by Global Affairs Canada for their project “Optimizing Canada’s International Assistance Efforts with Blockchain Technology: An Assessment of Regulatory Challenges at Home and Abroad”.

On April 13, Prof. Jeremy de Beer appeared before the Senate of Canada Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade (AEFA). The Committee is currently conducting hearings related to the implementation of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between Canada and the European Union.

Yesterday, Professor Ian Kerr appeared before the House of Commons’ Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics. The Committee is currently engaged in a review of the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

Professor Teresa Scassa has earned the 2016-2017 Excellence in Research Award of the Faculty of Law, Common Law Section.

On March 29, 2017, Professor Ian Kerr testified before the Senate Liberals Open Caucus, in its discussion on the advantages and challenges of robotics and artificial intelligence (AI).

The Open African Innovation Research (Open AIR) Network, under the guidance of Professors Jeremy de Beer and Chidi Oguamanam, has received funding from the Canadian Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Advanced Scholars Program (QES) to create new opportunities for emerging scholars to explore African innovation through the lens of gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.
