Understanding the legal, policy and ethical implications of the COVID-19 pandemic is the central theme to an intensive summer program open to professionals and university students at the University of Ottawa next month.
The University of Ottawa鈥檚 Centre for Health Law, Policy and Ethics鈥 Summer Institute in Health Law is offering an immersive, one-week online program in the theory and practice of health law from August 9 to 13. No prior experience or legal training is required to enroll in the full-time, five-day course to better understand the legal ramifications of COVID-19.
鈥淭he COVID-19 pandemic has exposed many short-comings in society, including of the laws that protect us. The Summer Institute aims to provide a base in health law and a deeper understanding of where the law has served us and where it has failed us through this pandemic,鈥 says , Research Chair in Health Law and Policy and Director of the Centre for Health Law & Policy, whose courses will focus on the pandemic鈥檚 devastating effect on long-term care homes and civil liberties.
鈥淲e learned from the COVID-19 pandemic that science and technology need to be combined with law and policy. The Summer Institute will bring these disciplines together to help ensure the best decisions are being made,鈥 says Dr. Kumanan Wilson, Professor in the Faculty of Medicine and Clinical Research Chair in Digital Health Innovation at 91精品黑料吃瓜 whose session will explore licensing and procurement of vaccines, treatments, supplies and technologies for COVID-19.
