Dining dollars and Flex dollars

Dining dollars (meal plan holders only) and Flex dollars (all students) are funds loaded on the 91精品黑料吃瓜 card. Parents may also load funds to their dependant鈥檚 91精品黑料吃瓜 card using the online portal.

Dining dollars are a tax-free currency to purchase food prepared on campus at all campus food locations. Dining dollars are available only to meal plan holders. At the end of the term, unused dining dollars are converted to Flex dollars. Minus applicable taxes and an admin fee of $25.

Dietary restrictions, allergies and exemptions

Dietary restrictions and allergies

Join the Dietary restriction Program if you have a mandatory meal plan and the following conditions or allergies:

  • Celiac disease
  • Peanut or nut
  • Gluten or wheat
  • Dairy
  • Egg

To prevent cross-contamination, meals are prepared in a separate room outside of the central kitchen with recipes and ingredients screened by our dietitian.

All staff members have been trained to prevent cross-contamination at every food preparation step and their work is regularly monitored.

Exemptions to meal plans

Requests for exemptions from the mandatory meal plan are only accepted for the following reasons:

  • Multiple food allergies that can鈥檛 be accommodated by the Dietary Restriction Program.
  • Religious reasons (e.g., kosher diet)
  • Physician-prescribed diet that can鈥檛 be accommodated by Food Services.

If one of the above applies to you, we recommend selecting a residence that doesn鈥檛 have a mandatory meal plan.

To submit a request for exemption, contact our dietitian to confirm your request is eligible. You may be asked for supporting documents.

It may take up to ten business days to process a request and, if supporting documents aren鈥檛 considered sufficient, an evaluation by a University of Ottawa health care professional and allergy tests may be needed. These steps may delay processing. Decisions are made on a case-by-case basis, and exemptions cannot be guaranteed.

Approved exemptions entitle you to a refund for the cost of the meal plan, calculated on the date access to the Dining Hall ended.
