MARK GREEN is currently employed as a legal counsel with Justice Canada. He has been a member of the Criminal Conviction Review Group (鈥淐CRG鈥) since 2003 and is involved in investigating alleged wrongful convictions and providing legal advice to the federal Minister of Justice. Before joining the CCRG, Mark was legal counsel with Justice Canada鈥檚 Sentencing Reform Team working on Canada鈥檚 policy related to sentencing. Mark spent four years working with a private law firm doing all forms of litigation prior to joining Justice Canada.
Prior to obtaining his law degree, Mark received his Master of Criminology in 1979. After graduating, Mark spent thirteen years working with both government and the non-profit sector in various areas within the criminal justice system in Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia.
While attending law school, Mark was an active member of the University of Ottawa Community Legal Clinic during all three academic years and summers. Mark was elected a member of the Clinic鈥檚 Steering Committee and also received the Karam Greenspon Award in 1995, as determined by the student body, for his outstanding commitment to the Clinic.
Mark has written various articles about the criminal justice system and was lead author in a report to Ministers of Justice in 2003 entitled 鈥淪entencing for manslaughter in cases involving intimate relationships鈥. Mark previously assisted in teaching undergraduate law courses at Carleton University.
