Gender inequality and oppression are central issues in the field of business and human rights. Despite decades of attempts to eliminate discrimination against women and advance the human rights of persons of diverse genders, progress on the ground has been slow, including in the context of business activity.

The Common Law Section recently hosted the 17th annual Nelligan Law First-Year Moot Court Competition. The competition, which has been sponsored by Nelligan Law since 2007, is designed to immerse students in the fundamentals of advocacy and experiential legal practice, just 10 weeks after beginning law school.

The Faculty’s Visiting Professor in Disability Rights and Legal Education for the 2024-25 academic year recently visited Fauteux for two days of guest lectures and meetings.

The Common Law Section is pleased to announce that Marie-Claude Langlois is the winner of the Award for Distinguished Service by a Staff Member for 2024.

In a simulated meeting of the UN Security Council, convened on 18 November 2024, 20 Common Law students adopted a resolution calling upon all states to conduct their outer space activities in conformity with international law including the UN Charter, and not to place in orbit around the Earth any objects carrying nuclear weapons or any other kinds of weapons of mass destruction.

The Ottawa Law Review (OLR) is delighted to share the outstanding success of the recent Volume 56 Dinner, hosted on November 28, 2024.
