Professor Michael Geist has been appointed to the Order of Ontario, the province's highest honour, awarded to Ontarians for excellence and achievement in any field.

Recipients of the are deemed to have made significant contributions in the areas of education, arts, community and public service, science and medicine, citizenship and multiculturalism, business, or sports. Those invested into the Order are held in the highest esteem as examples of excellence for all Ontarians.  .

Michael Geist has dedicated his exemplary career to championing the public interest and has pioneered and popularized the field of law and technology in Canada, obtaining international recognition in doing so. Through his research, outreach and volunteer work, he represents the interests of Canadians, defending online human rights such as freedom of speech, and urging citizens to become actively engaged in government policy. His tireless advocacy and dedication to the public interest has exceptionally benefitted Ontarians and all Canadians.

The Canada Research Chair in Internet and E-Commerce Law, Michael Geist is a founding member and the former Director of the Centre for Law, Technology and Society.

Along with the other new appointees, Professor Geist will be presented with his Order of Ontario insignia by Ontario鈥檚 Lieutenant Governor, the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, at an investiture ceremony at Queen鈥檚 Park on February 27, 2018.
