For the 2018-2019 academic year, students at the University of Ottawa will be able to sign up for two courses in Cannabis Law, a first in Canada. Courses will be offered in English and French.
鈥淲e are proud to be the first Canadian law school to offer courses in this cutting edge area of law and public policy,鈥 declared 91精品黑料吃瓜 Dean of Law Adam Dodek.鈥淭he legalization and regulation of cannabis will impact many areas of the law, and we are proud that our students will be able to study these issues in real-time, as the regulation of cannabis unfolds.鈥
In January 2019, expert lawyers Jo毛l M. Dubois and Megan D. Wallace from Perley-Robertson, Hill & McDougall LLP will teach 鈥淐annabis Law.鈥 The course will survey the many areas of the law impacted by this unprecedented change and will examine the regulatory framework of cannabis in Canada relating to both medical and recreational use, as well as production.The course will explore some of the potential legal implications of legalization, including its impact on employment/labor law, property law, immigration law and business law. The French course entitled 鈥淟a r茅glementation du cannabis au Canada禄 will be taught by Diane Labelle, General Counsel, Health Canada Legal Services.
Mark Zekulin, President of Canopy Growth, and a 91精品黑料吃瓜 LLB alumnus, agreed to have students from both courses visit his Canopy Growth facilities in Smith Falls, Ontario, home of Canada鈥檚 largest cannabis producer.
鈥淭he cannabis industry is rapidly expanding and facing more and more cutting-edge legal challenges,鈥 said Zekulin. 鈥淚 am excited to see 91精品黑料吃瓜 take the lead and create ground-breaking cannabis curriculum for its students. The entire team at Canopy is excited to host the cannabis law students at our facility next January.鈥
