The Faculty of Medicine鈥檚 Centre for Innovation in Medical Education (CiMED) offers a variety of educational events throughout the year.

CiMED Medical Education Journal Club

The CiMED Medical Education Journal Club (MEJC) is a community of practice of individuals interested in reviewing medical education articles in a relaxed and inclusive setting. At this event, we review two articles on a specific topic chosen by an expert discussant.

We meet every two months on a Tuesday evening at one of the clinician educators鈥 home in a very convivial atmosphere. Once or twice a year, the MEJC will collaborate virtually with another Medical Education institution to expand our horizons and work with international experts.

Everyone with an interest in Medical Education is welcome.

Shaping the Future of Medicine:

Challenges in Training the Next Generation of Physicians

Medical education is at a crossroads, facing challenges in preparing the next generation of physicians. The increasingly diverse learner population requires tailored accommodations, while rising medical school admissions test program capacity. Meanwhile, advancements in AI and emerging technologies are reshaping teaching, learning, and practice. These forces call for a bold re-examination and vision for the future of medical education.

Reimagining Leadership, Scholarship and Teaching in Canadian Medical Education:

Global Politics, History, and Our role on the Global Stage

Canadian medical education and leadership have long been influential globally but shifting sociopolitical landscapes鈥攊ncluding rising far-right politics, migration crises, and health professional mobility鈥攔equire a reevaluation of this role. The Annual PGME Professional Development Day

We recently had our first Annual PGME Professional Development Day. What an enormous success with 140 attendees, four interactive workshops, lots of discussion, and sharing of experiences!

Business leadership conference speaker

The day featured thought-provoking workshops such as:

  • 鈥淧rogram Obligations: Looking through the PARO looking glass鈥
  • 鈥淒eveloping safe learning environments鈥
  • 鈥淥n the journey of a resident in difficulty: the path to resources and avoiding the pitfalls鈥
  • 鈥淟earning trajectories: tailoring to your learners鈥 trajectory鈥

Participants shared overwhelmingly positive feedback, emphasizing how the sessions provided practical tips and strategies to use in learner remediation and fostering educational success. Many highlighted the value of engaging discussions and collaborative problem-solving opportunities throughout the day.

These rounds are designed to provide a forum for discussion for clinician-educators on educational challenges, cutting-edge topics and essentials of scholarship.

Target audience: Clinician educators, educational leaders, others interested in the presented topic

When: May 12, 2025 at 4:30-5:30 virtually -

Presenter: Dr. Claire Touchie

Title: 鈥淎 Question of Validity: Validity Theory and the CBME Conundrum鈥

A team collaborates around a table filled with charts, sticky notes, and diagrams. A glowing light bulb sits at the center, symbolizing ideas. One person writes with a pen, another types on a laptop, and a third holds colorful markers.

Description:

Validity is at the core of assessment decisions. However, competency-based education frameworks, workplace-based assessments and entrustment decision making have created some challenges to the validity frameworks that are traditionally used. These frameworks have been conceptualized in a world of standardization. How do we best address these challenges and how should we resolve the question of validity?

By the end of this session, the participants will be able to:

  1. Outline the commonly used modern validity theories and frameworks in health professions education
  2. Discuss the possible threats to validity encountered by competency-based education and entrustment decisions approaches
  3. Propose creative possible solutions

Next MESH Rounds: June 16, 2025 with Dr. Susan Humphrey-Murto
