Every year, the Faculty of Social Sciences proudly recognizes the excellence of its professors and administrative staff by granting Faculty awards. Here is the list of the 2022 award recipients. Congratulations to all!

The Faculty of Social Sciences’ Excellence in Research Award is granted to a member of the teaching personnel who has earned distinction for his or her unit and Faculty because of the importance and exceptional characteristics of his or her research work.

The Activities in the Media or the Community Award is presented annually to a member of the teaching staff who has demonstrated outstanding service by sharing his or her expertise through the media or with the community, both locally and nationally.

«&�Բ��; Je suis très honoré de recevoir le Prix pour les activités dans les médias ou la communauté 2022. La pandémie de COVID a amené son lot de défi pour les parents et leurs enfants. Si, par mes interventions dans les médias, j’ai pu amener des éléments de réponses et de réflexion, alors j’aurai rempli mon rôle de chercheur qui participe au bien-être de la communauté. »

The Activities in the Media or the Community Award is presented annually to a member of the teaching staff who has demonstrated outstanding service by sharing his or her expertise through the media or with the community, both locally and nationally.

"I am delighted that my work to create and run Rainbow Haven, a community organization that works to sponsor, settle and advocate for LGBTQ+ refugees and asylum seekers in Ottawa is being recognized with this Award. Thank you to the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs, which has given me the space to connect my academic work with this important community activism!"

Young Researcher Award

The Young Researcher Award is presented annually to a member of the teaching staff who has earned distinction for his or her unit and Faculty as a result of the importance and exceptional characteristics of his or her research work.

Je suis honoré de recevoir le prix de Jeune chercheur de la FSS. Je le dédie aux nombreux organismes communautaires avec qui nous collaborons, les étudiants et le personnel du V-TRaC Lab, les collègues et mentors inspirants et ma famille qui rendent possible cette belle aventure. »

Excellence in Teaching Award

The Excellence in Teaching Award is granted to a member of the teaching staff, nominated by his or her peers, who has demonstrated outstanding performance in his or her teaching, in particular in the development of innovative teaching material, courses, and programs of study, and for his or her interpersonal skills.

«&�Բ��; Je suis très reconnaissant pour ce prix, octroyé sur les bases d’un travail qui repose cela dit sur les conseils et l’investissement de plusieurs autres personnes. Je désire ainsi remercier mes collègues du Département de criminologie, qui me partagent conseils et passion depuis mon arrivée. Je remercie les étudiant-e-s qui, chaque semestre, relèvent les défis propres aux cours comme ceux de méthodes quantitatives, ou à ceux de Ventures et Walls to Bridges. Votre curiosité et votre assiduité nous permettent de sortir des sentiers battus! Je remercie finalement ces personnes clés qui, à la Faculté des sciences sociales, soutiennent le travail des professeur-e-s et génèrent de nouvelles opportunités pour développer notre enseignement, ensemble. »

Part-Time Professor of the Year Award

The Part-Time Professor of the Year Award was created in recognition of the contribution of the members of the Association of Part-Time Professors of the University of Ottawa (APTPUO) to university education.

"What an honour to be acknowledged in this way! I truly appreciate my colleagues and students for their support, encouragement, and generosity. As a part-time professor, I bring my practical experiences from the field into the classroom. Teaching makes me a better practitioner, and vice versa. I strive to infuse my passion for social justice into my teaching and into the learning environment in my classroom. I aspire to empower students with knowledge and skills that they can use as tools for positive social change."

Je travaille à École de service social depuis 13 ans et ces dernières années sont celles où nous avons eu le plus de problématiques liées aux stages en raison de la pandémie, notre équipe a su relever le défi! C’est un honneur de recevoir cette reconnaissance de la Faculté et de mes collègues. »
