Power Corporation of Canada will donate $2 million to the University of Ottawa to expand global learning opportunities for students and support urgent community-based research.

For most students, university is all about attending lectures, doing assignments and writing exams. But not for engineering students at 91��Ʒ���ϳԹ�’s Centre for Entrepreneurship and Engineering Design (CEED). From day one, they’re using 3D printers, lathes, laser cutters, milling machines and other tools to create things like prosthetic limbs, robots, rockets and even Formula 1 cars.

When Ron Thomas lost the love of his life, his adored wife, Dr. Christa Zeller-Thomas (PhD ’04), he wanted to honour her for the brilliant scholar and academic that she was. But just as importantly, he needed to keep their beautiful love story alive.

For Gary Dokis (MBA ’99) and his cherished late spouse, Mona-Lisa Verhelst-Dokis, giving back to the Indigenous community was at the core of their shared values, in the belief that it could create meaningful, lasting impact. It’s also at the heart of their generous planned gift to 91��Ʒ���ϳԹ�.

Keeping the musical accomplishments and legacy of their parents alive was the primary reason why Ginette Williams, QC (BSocSc ’70, LLB ’73), and Judy Hemmingsen (BA ’72, BA ’74, MA ’78) wanted to establish the Armand and Margaret Weisbord Memorial Scholarship in Music.

Deirdre Nicholds (BA ’87) is a dedicated and long-time University of Ottawa donor who has created two endowed funds, supported by bequests, as a way to honour those she cherished and their passions. She also wishes to pay tribute to her own interest, an affection for the visual arts, through an additional planned gift in her will.

To describe Dr. Ruby Heap as a “pioneer” doesn’t quite capture the impact she’s had on the field of women’s history. For more than three decades, Heap helped build and strengthen women’s history not just at the University of Ottawa, but across Canada.

When law professor Michael Geist started 91��Ʒ���ϳԹ�’s Samuelson-Glushko Canadian Internet Policy and Public Interest Clinic (CIPPIC) more than two decades ago, he knew there was a need for a focus on digital and internet law. But he had no idea how important the clinic would become.

The University of Ottawa today received a landmark $2.55 million endowment from The Joyce Family Foundation to establish a fund to support students facing significant financial need or other socio-economic barriers.
