What is your role working in Information Technology

I am a Communication Officer within the Change Management team.

What degree are you currently pursuing? 

I am pursuing a major in Communication with a minor in Digital Culture, combining traditional communication principles with modern digital practices.

What are your main responsibilities in your position in Information Technology

I manage digital communications, including social media, events (virtual and in-person), webpage development with Drupal, visual content creation using Canva and Adobe, and website maintenance. I create communication materials and multimedia content while using Microsoft Office and applying organizational and analytical skills.

What skillsets have you developed since working in Information Technology

I've enhanced my cross-functional team collaboration, project coordination, and adaptability skills, quickly learning new software platforms. I've also improved my ability to manage multiple priorities while balancing content creation, event coordination, and website maintenance to meet deadlines.

Why did you apply for this position in Information Technology

As a Communication major, I wanted to apply academic knowledge in a practical setting. I'm passionate about helping students and showcasing university resources while bridging technical information and user-friendly communication.

What emoticon do you find yourself using a lot at work?

I often use the smiley face with thumbs up emoji. While a simple thumbs up can seem impersonal, adding a smile brings warmth to professional interactions!

What did you learn that you expect you can transfer into your next job opportunity?

I've developed transferable skills including problem-solving through technical troubleshooting, emotional intelligence for feedback handling and conflict resolution, time management while maintaining quality deliverables, and professional communication in diverse environments.

What's the best part of working in Information Technology?

Working in IT has expanded my knowledge beyond my major. I've learned content management systems like Drupal and gained website maintenance experience. This hands-on work has built my technical confidence while collaboration with IT professionals has provided insights into technology implementation in university settings.

Do you feel as though you are using what you have learned so far in your university courses in the workplace?

Definitely. I apply communication skills from verbal to nonverbal in my role. My understanding of body language helps in presentations and reading audience engagement. My academic background directly supports my digital communication work, while my combined studies in Digital Culture and traditional communication prepare me for content creation and professional presence online and offline.

What is one thing you have learned about yourself while working in Information Technology?

I've discovered my adaptability and quick learning ability with new technologies. I excel at balancing priorities while maintaining high standards across tasks. I thrive in environments that expand my knowledge beyond academics and connect me with professionals from diverse backgrounds like computer sciences.
