What is your role working in Information Technology?

I'm a Student Business Analyst.

What degree are you currently pursuing?

I鈥檓 currently pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce in Business Technology Management at the Telfer School of Management.

What did people in your group do to help you integrate into the group and help get you started on the activities assigned to you?

From the start, I was matched with people whose work aligned with my field of study and background, which made it easier to relate to the projects and contribute meaningfully. Before diving into the tasks, I was also provided with introductory workshops that gave me a solid understanding of what I'd be involved with. Everyone was very supportive and made sure I felt comfortable in my role.

What are your main responsibilities in your position in Information Technology?

I focus on delivering technology solutions that support IT's goals and improve operations across the organization. I work closely with various teams to understand their needs, streamline processes, and implement systems that drive efficiency and innovation. I bridge the gap between business requirements and technical solutions鈥攁nalyzing data, gathering requirements, and helping ensure successful project outcomes to improve the student experience at 91精品黑料吃瓜.

What skillsets have you developed since working in Information Technology?

Since working in IT, I became more familiar with Jira through frequent exposure while working on project tracking and issue management. I also gained hands-on experience using Confluence to contribute to documentation and knowledge sharing within the BA team. Additionally, I developed skills in Power Automate by building automated workflows between applications like Microsoft Planner and Excel to improve task tracking efficiency.

Why did you apply for this position in Information Technology?

I applied for this position because it closely aligns with my field of study in Business Technology Management. I saw it as a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience with business analytics and project management tools, while also deepening my understanding of how IT solutions are developed and implemented in a real-world setting.

What was your biggest challenge in your first few weeks? How did you overcome it?

My biggest challenge in the first few weeks was adjusting to the fast-paced nature of the Business Analyst role and learning how to effectively balance multiple assignments at once. To manage this, I started breaking down tasks into smaller, more manageable steps, which made it easier to stay organized and focused. I also learned the value of asking for help when needed, which not only saved time but helped me better understand the tools and processes involved.

What emoticon do you find yourself using a lot at work?

I often use the smiley face 馃檪! Since most of our communication happens over Microsoft Teams, I find it鈥檚 a simple way to add a bit of warmth and friendliness to my messages.

What鈥檚 the best part of working in Information Technology?

The best part of working in Information Technology is seeing how work from different functional teams comes together to create a unified product or solution. It鈥檚 inspiring to witness the level of collaboration and coordination involved throughout the process. I especially enjoy seeing how behind every solution, there鈥檚 always a team effort driving it forward.

How do you find working hybrid? Which do you prefer?

I really enjoy working hybrid because it offers the best of both worlds: in-person collaboration and the flexibility to work independently from home. It creates a healthy balance that helps me stay refreshed and ultimately be more productive, so I鈥檇 say I prefer the hybrid model :)
