One of our greatest strengths is the dedication that our nearly 100 attending emergency physicians have to our residency training program. Our physician group includes national and international experts in many fields - all who have a love for emergency medicine and for training residents. The support that is received from this group is evident by way of continuous teaching, coaching, academic support, resources, social events and mentorship for the residents. Our department is a supportive learning environment where attendings and residents work together to train and succeed in providing world class emergency care to our patients.
Our core training sites include the Ottawa Hospital General Campus, The Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus and the Children鈥檚 Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO).
Areas of concentrated expertise that our residents have pursued include; Master of Clinical Epidemiology, Master of Medical Education, Master of Health Administration, Master of Business Administration, Master of Healthcare Quality and Safety, Simulation, Critical Care, Toxicology, Paediatric Emergency Medicine, Emergency Ultrasound, Prehospital and Transport Medicine, Resuscitation and Geriatrics. Our program is proud to deliver a tailored learning experience and we work with each individual resident to create an area of concentrated expertise that meets their own learning objectives.
Finally, Ottawa is a fantastic place to live! It is a beautiful urban, multicultural city with great nightlife, fantastic restaurants and active music, arts and cultural scenes. There are more festivals in Ottawa than any city in Canada celebrating everything from poutine and beer to all musical genres. Ottawa is a city for the active as well with its extensive cycling/walking/cross-country skiing pathways, Rideau Canal, beaches, Gatineau park and nearby skiing.
Meeting the PDs: If you are interested in our program, then we would like the opportunity to meet with you in person! We are regularly hosting medical students to answer questions and share why we are so proud of our program. Please contact Lise Levesque, our program administrator, if you are interested in attending one of these in person meetings ([email protected]). There will also be an opportunity to meet the PDs virtually at our annual CaRMS PD Townhall which occurs every fall. Information regarding this session will be distributed by our Lead Residents on our social media accounts and through the CAEP emergency medicine interest group.
We look forward to meeting you!
