Recently, new technology has been introduced to the Faculty of Arts' district at the University of Ottawa. It allows student artwork to be displayed in an evolving and tangible way. A big digital screen in front of Hamelin Hall, along the Grande Allée, shows selected artworks at all times as part of a special public display.

This ongoing exhibition features videos and a slideshow of curated pieces, including two paintings by Anna Mikhailov, a Fine Arts student with a minor in Law who is also a member of the Human Rights Research and Education Centre (HRREC).

Her painting Equestrian (oil on canvas) has received the 2024 Faculty of Arts Dean’s Award for Best Artwork in Exhibit. It was also chosen to be on the cover of the 2025 University of Ottawa President’s Report. Her second painting is called Embodying a Human Body (acrylic on canvas). She is fortunate to have two of her works included in the screening.

This initiative shows how art, through creative expression, can be shown in public spaces and be open to everyone. It can make people aware of things, start conversations, and get people to think together.
